3.0 How to build a part

In Softbase you have the ability to sell a part that you have built.  First you need to ensure you have an Expense Code set up for this purpose.

The Expense Code should be set up to the Parts Department with the Expense Account being the Parts Inventory account, because you are adding these build parts into the inventory account.  You can enter the internal customer account that you would like to use as a default.  Then mark the box for Build Part.

Then you need to ensure that the part number that you want to sell is set up in inventory.  You can add the part via parts setup/inquiry as needed if the part does not already exist.

The on hand quantity can be zero as this will come from the build part process.

Now you can open a service work order as an internal document (you will need to choose a sale code that is marked internal) and then the Expense Information section should reflect the Expense code that you set up for the Parts Department Build Part.

Under the Add’l Info tab there is a Build Part # field, enter the Part # that you want to sell it as.  Enter the Warehouse in which you want to stock these parts.  In the Build Quantity field enter the total number of parts that will be built on this one work order.

Now any parts, labor, misc items that need to be used to build these parts can be charged to this work order as an expense to create this part number and add it's value to parts inventory.

When you invoice the work order the total amount will be divided by the number of parts built on the work order (the number you entered into the Build Quantity field under the Add’l Info tab)

The on hand qty in the Parts setup window will also increase by the number of parts built on this work order.
