How to Apply an Overpayment as a Customer Credit

Modified on Fri, 26 Jul at 9:21 AM

1. Accounting > AR Deposits > Enter Deposit header, including the full amount of the check received by the customer. For this example, we'll enter a check amount of $500.

2. Double click to add invoice(s) to the deposit.

3. The amount remaining will automatically calculate in the Cash Entry Detail section. Click Add to post this credit to Accounts Receivable for this customer.

4. Once the deposit is in balance, you will receive the Post button.

5. Click "Yes"

6. To confirm the credit posted correctly, navigate to AR Inquiry.

7. Enter the Customer # or search by Invoice #

8. Here is the posting for the deposit created above, reflecting the original invoice of $454.08, the full and additional payment, leaving the customer with a credit of -$45.02.
